Cogito, ergo sum – translated to English means ‘I think, therefore I am’. This phrase is popularly connected to Descartes who used it in one of his works.
I came across this phrase when I was reading through a book ‘Code Name God’ by Mani Bhaumik. It was an inspiring read. It changed the very way I look at life.
The book centers around finding a parallel between Science and Religion. Authored by Mani, who is a scientist and a spiritual person, it clearly reflects his thought. He also describes about his road to success in the book. He was born in a very poor family in Bengal hearing to inspiring and spiritual lectures of Gandhi. He became one of the millionaires in United States with the help of his scientific pursuit by inventing laser used in medical sciences such as LASIK.
According to him, all that is in the World is ‘Energy’. All activity, process, things are all different manifestation of the same energy which we call by a different name. This is what his quantum research shows.
In the Hindu philosophy, we the people, cattle and all things are seen as different manifestations of ‘God’ himself.
Some words that inspired me are those lines in which he says about how he became a millionaire.
“I had an advantage over all others in the real estate investments. I was daring to take risks because I had nothing to lose for initially I had nothing”
And one more, the title of this post, ‘I think, therefore I am’.
26th January 2007 – India celebrated its 59th year of Republic. I was not in the city but in my town neyveli.
It is traditional in neyveli that during the independence day and republic days, the Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) hoists the national flag at our stadium. Following this is accepts the parade honor. This is followed by felicitating people who made significant contributions to the growth of Neyveli Lignite Corporation. After this there are cultural events (drills – as we call it there) performed by school kids. With the announcement of the winner of the cultural events and the singing of the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, the programme is complete.
I went this year to the stadium after 5 years (all these 5 years i was in my college and last year i was in chennai) to attend the Republic day parade. It brought back old memories of my school days when i used to go with my friends. None of my friends turned up this year for that and i was all alone completely lost in thoughts. It was not quite interesting to watch the events as it used to be in my childhood. We used to fight over whose school will win the first prize and we boo and encourage each others school. That was missing. I have lost that childhood innocence.
When I came back home at 9 a.m., the republic day celebrations were being telecast on NDTV. I just spent the rest of the day sitting before the TV and watching all the programmes being telecast.
NDTV Indian of the Year program was worth a watch.
Long live Indian Republic! Long live our Heros who got us it!
The billionth time i am asking this question to myself!
To be or Not to be?
The following to be’ s have been pestering my mind recently…
To be in software industry or not.
To be in the current company/project or not.
To be a graphic artist or not.
To do my higher studies or not.
To be a teacher in my later half of life or not.
To work or not.
To fight for my vacation leave or not. (I did fight for it 3 days back and got it after losing some temper.)
To look out for a girl friend or not.
And a lot more to be ’s.
Let me update whether I got answers to any of these To be ’s after my 3 day vacation…
Here is a nice topic to deal with… Life came by creation or by evolution…
This is indeed a question that has been on for a long time with no clear answer… I am not going to provide an answer…but this is what i got by discussing with my team mate Sudar.
My point is the world was created as a whole, with the ant, monkeys, human as it is today.
Points that lead me to believe so..
1. The complex nature of the entire system.
2. How could some 24 or 25 elements needed to create a living cell come to existence all of a sudden at one instance.
3. Why is that we have not evolved further.
4. Classical: Missing links.
5. If it is survival of the fittest as said by Darwin, we don’t see people and animal striving for survival evolve, instead they become extinct. (take the case of kiwi bird).
Any different opinions on that is welcome…
And the year 2007 has gone by and into the new year 2008… I try to look at what I have done in the past year….
Company: No profile changes. Am in the same project as in 2006. Significant achievements is also NIL.
Friends: No new acquaintances made.
Life: I have moved to a new house in Kellys this year and a more comfortable one too.. Will write about it in my future posts.
Family: No lovers, wife to be added to my family.
So last year was a normal year for me with no significant achievements…
New Year Resolution: No resolutions this year as i need to keep up old ones first… Adieu..
